Great Consolation In The Midst Of The Covid-19 Pandemic In Vietnam

“It started at the end of April. Everything fell into panic and stalemate. Hospitals broke down, the number of deaths increased, the sound of ambulances became a haunting sound for three months. An entire city, which was once the busiest in Vietnam, is now panting with unusually weak breaths. ‘Mom, I’m hungry, ‘Why can’t I see my parents coming back?'”. Then what happens next?

Humans are probably going through the most difficult period of the 21st century up to the present time. The emergence of the covid 19 epidemic has brought too much loss for people. But most of all, the most painful thing is probably the rapid population drop around the planet. For a small country like Vietnam, the loss is too large to catch the big powers, yet there is one thing about which I am proud as a Vietnamese citizen. “Good leaves cover broken leaves”, a maxim that has never been outdated or overshadowed by the kindness of the Vietnamese people.

Since the end of April 2021, the number of people infected with Covid has quickly increased. The blockage order was issued across the city in accordance with directives 15 and 16. Difficulties piled up, what prospect will happen when people have to stay at home for almost three months without going out to buy food or any other necessities? Fortunately, they are living in Vietnam, where the sharing and solidarity will be faithfully recreated in difficult times. From the Catholic community to the sales clerk, from Saigon to Da Lat, everyone has set up a food transit system for the areas under lockdown (1).

Similarly, despite the fact that the impact of floods and storms in 2020 has swept out everything, the people of central Vietnam are still eager to assist the people of the South in overcoming this tough moment (2). Furthermore, the Vietnamese community residing overseas also made a small contribution to help the people in the country during the peak of the pandemic (3).

I have to acknowledge that the more tough times that Vietnamese people face, the more thankful I am for their sharing quality. The covid epidemic not only claimed many lives, but it also left huge gaps in the lives of children who should have had a full life with their parents, resulting in a new pandemic known as “Pandemic orphans“.

Due to the covid pandemic, almost 2000 children across the country lost their fathers, moms, and became orphans. (4)
“A month ago, the mother of the three children contracted the virus and was hospitalized. She died sometime later. (5)
“When I went to the family home to ascertain the situation, I found the three children in the house alone, unaware of the fact that their mother had died a week earlier.”

But fortunately, somewhere in this society, there are still many kind people willing to help them. For example, the campaign “You are not alone”, or other policies from the government has partly eased the wounds of children.
Vietnam is a country that is still quite poor economically, but it is absolutely worth living. If one day, unfortunately, you are feeling stuck and want to choose a place to relieve your frustration, try coming here. Who knows, maybe you’ll fall in love with this location and wish to stay for a long time? Anyway, kindness always exists, one way or another. Vietnamese people always have their own ways to create their brand.
